christmas advent

my bishopric handed out a christmas letter today.  there is a list of scriptures and a carol or message for each day.  i thought i would type it up and add links to make it easier for my family and friends with their on the go schedules, to take a moment, when they have it, and focus on what christmas is truly about.

We wish you all a wonderful Christmas Season this year.  May we reflect on what the birth of the Savior means throughout December.  We are posting a list of Christmas scriptures, songs, and video clips that you and your family could use to help keep your thoughts focused on the Savior, during this fun, but sometimes distracting, time of year.

Jesus Christ is The Gift.  He is the Son of God.  He was born of Mary in the most humble of settings.  He descended bellow all so he could understand us, no matter out circumstance or how low we sometimes feel.  His atonement provides the way for us to overcome out sins, stay faithful through our weaknesses, and return to our Heavenly Father.  Our hope is that we each find time during this busy season to share The Gift we love and hold so dear.

currently:::

watching:::  gilmore girls
                       season 3 episode 2 'take the deviled eggs...'

lorelai takes rory to sherry's baby shower and gets forced into attending.  she starts freaking out and ends up in sherry's bathroom where she starts to rearrange her medicine cabinet.  when the girls get back to stars hallow they see jess's car and feeling bitter about him wrecking rory's car they use the deviled eggs that sherry made them take home from the shower and deviled-egg his car.

the best part is when they try to peel out and make a get-a-way, but they can't get the tires to squeal so they make the sound themselves.  ohhhh and when luke tells jess, "they must really hate you," when they find jess's car deviled-egged.

giveaway winner

Amy, I bet you were wondering if you would win... hahaha.

I will get the package to post in a couple days.  It's sitting here ready, but I'm still looking into which women's shelter or organization to donate the others scarfs too. I'm not sure if it will be local or if I will need to mail another package. So the couple days wait explained.

Since you won do you have an organization preference?

giveaway::: ruffles, ruffles, and more ruffles

about this time last year i helped teach how to knit ruffle scarfs to our relief society sisters.  i went out and bought 2 skeins of ruffle yarn to make a scarf and told myself i'm not going to get any more of this yarn and will not be making a bunch of scarfs.  then i needed to go back to michael's and pick up a few skeins for others at the activity.

well, they were on sale so i bought a few extra because i didn't want to frog the scarf i made to show how to make one and a few sisters said they wanted to make scarfs but wouldn't be able to make the activity.  so we made plans to get together later that month and i needed a couple skeins for that. now i had several skeins of ruffle yarn in my stash.

then there was a really good sale where they were 80% off.  i couldn't resist, though i should have.  now i have more than i care to admit in my stash.

the other day i was helping a friend figure out how to crochet a ruffle scarf. when we were finished with her scarfs i pulled out my stash thinking i need to do something with my stash of ruffle yarn.  i put on season 1 of downton abbey, started knitting, and by the time i got to season 2 i had quite a few scarfs made.

giveaway:::  if would like a ruffle scarf leave a comment and i will randomly pick a winner early next week.  don't forget to let me know which one is your favorite.

ohhhh and if you leave me a link to a cute project made with ruffle yarn i will put your name in 2x for the drawing.  there has to be something different to make with this yarn!

birthday and the beach

I took my Girlies across town for a birthday party this afternoon.  I left prepared to be stuck in weekend traffic for an hour.  We got lucky and didn't have to deal with any traffic which was awesome and odd. So having some time to kill we went to the beach.

My Girlies noticed the spray from the breaking waves and took off running.

They wrote a birthday message in the sand for their friend.

 Then took a walk down the beach to search for some seashells for the birthday girl.

hello 2014

With all my Christmas projects finished I was able to think about my first project to do in 2014.  Well my second project but first fiber related one.  The first project was clearing the clutter out of my closet.  Not so fun though really necessary.  I justified not having to clean or put things away for a couple months because the clutter was helping to hide Christmas presents.  It worked till the day after Christmas.

Now onto things that are more fun.  I've been looking at crochet motifs and granny squares quite a bit lately and decided I want to make a afghan.  I like this bobble pattern but when I made it there was something about it I didn't quite like.

Maybe it needed a little more color....

I do like it better with more color but nope, it wasn't a color thing.  I realized that the bobbles are cute and I like the texture but my ocd side will have issues.  I see myself spending a lot of time trying to keep them all from going concave.  Not how I want to spend my time.

I decided to try a sunburst pattern and really like it.

I found lots of pretty colors to use with making sunburst granny squares that were already in my stash.  So the first craft project  of 2014 is a stash buster project, YAY!

I'm making good progress and trying not to think of how many granny squares I will need to make.  Just thinking of all the color combinations I can make with the pretty yarn.

Happy 2014!
