hording mending

The little bird I was planning on making was put on hold this past week.  I have been busy patching holes, fixing zippers, snaps, and buttons.  It seems EVERY pair of my younger son's pants had some problem with them and they are not simple fixes he could do himself.  So it has been a slow process helping him repair them all.  I just wonder why he was hording it all and waited until he had NO pants left to wear to ask for help.  I guess the down side to my littles doing their own laundry is I don't notice when their clothes need fixing.

But repairs have been on hold for the last couple days because The Chief's ship pulled into port for the weekend. YAY!

I will be back to mending all of this tomorrow and hopefully getting my little birdie knitted up this week.

a nest full of eggs

Yesterday I sat and watched several robins digging worms out of my garden. Most of them were young and very skittish. Every noise and movement sent them flying for cover. Then they would return and dig some more.

Watching them I remembered this pattern that I saw at the purl bee. So taking a break from little hats I knitted up a nest and some eggs last night.

See how tiny the little eggs are.

My littlest insisted on loaning me her oriole to sit on the eggs and keep them warm until I knit up a little bird to do it.

two more hats...

...have been added to the pile.

I still can't tell that the amount of yarn left over from past projects has decreased.   In fact it looks like the yarn has multiplied.  That probably has to do with it being a huge mess right now.  I need to look at the pile of finished items and not what is still here to be used.  Then I will see that progress is being made.

odds and ends

There is too much left over odds and ends of yarn from past projects in my house. This week it has been reduced a bit but it will probably take a few more weeks to make a noticeable dent in it. I am going to keep at it and reward myself with some yummy silk yarn when it is all used up. Right now I am thinking of how that silk will feel gliding through my fingers while working with it. I have completed:

6 baby hats (I gave 2 away already)

9 bath puffs

bugs on my cookies

My boys made me some cookies today and brought me a plate of them with a cup of hot chocolate.  I went to wash my hands before eating them and when I returned there were bugs on my cookies. LOL

moving forward

I decided to not put a border on the quilt because there wasn't a fabric that I wanted to use for a border.  If I wait to find one it will never get done so moving forward there was a little progress made yesterday.

surprises

I love surprises, well the good ones that is. Like getting a package from an amazing friend and finding beautiful, handmade gifts inside.

I am trying to be a good blogger so I laid my gift out for a picture and decided to put the book next on my list to read with it.  I had plans to curl up under my quilt and spend the afternoon reading.  But while I made myself a cup of hot chocolate......

They are great little fakers.
Mamalia, I thought I would also show you what the girls have been up to with the cute doll quilts and pillows you made them.

Thank you for the lovely quilts you made for us!

sunset

After a very busy day I took some time to watch the sunset with my family and enjoy the time we have together.

this morning

survivor

This rose bush was cut down to 4" tall and looked like a stick in the mud a month ago. I wasn't sure it would survive, but it did.

this and that

My mom and two of my nieces came out to visit the last couple weeks.  I enjoyed having them here and want to share some photos of what we were up to.
